6 SEPTEMBER 1885 Unification Day of Bulgaria
On 6 September, Bulgaria celebrates the Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia in 1885 — one of the most significant events in Bulgarian history. The achievement was made possible through the determination, courage, and unity of the Bulgarian people.
Following the decisions of the Congress of Berlin, Bulgarian territories were divided into the Principality of Bulgaria and the autonomous region of Eastern Rumelia. On 6 September 1885, in Plovdiv, the Unification was proclaimed and later successfully defended during the Serbo-Bulgarian War.
Today, the holiday symbolizes national unity, independence, and the enduring spirit of the Bulgarian nation.
